Dr. Janak Koirala is a distinguished Clinical Trial Consultant in Nepal and a Professor with a remarkable background in Infectious Diseases. With extensive experience spanning over two decades, Dr. Koirala has made significant contributions to the field of medicine and clinical research. He is also running a infectious disease fellowship program in one of the most reputed Medical School in Kathmandu. 

As a Clinical Trial Consultant at the Nepal Health Research Council, Dr. Koirala has been instrumental in shaping and overseeing various clinical trials, leveraging his expertise to advance healthcare research. His role involves providing strategic insights, ensuring protocol adherence, and contributing to the development of robust methodologies to enhance the quality and efficacy of clinical trials.

Dr. Koirala’s commitment to global health is evident in his diverse consultancy roles. He served as a Consultant for the World Health Organization, contributing to the preparation of the National TB Handbook and Training Materials. His leadership as the Lead Consultant for the Global Fund Grant for COVID-19, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Population, underscores his dedication to addressing critical health challenges on a global scale.

During his tenure at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Dr. Koirala served as the Professor of Medicine and as the Past Division Chief of Infectious Diseases. With over 20 years of experience in academia and research, he played a pivotal role in shaping the education and training of medical professionals.

Dr. Koirala holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Epidemiology from the University of Illinois Chicago, and he completed a post-graduate Fellowship (ABIM Board Certification) in Infectious Diseases through the University of Illinois / University of Chicago Joint ID Fellowship Program. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.

His research contributions are notable, particularly his work on carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii in Central Illinois, reflecting his dedication to advancing the understanding of infectious diseases.
